“Don’t Hurry, Be Happy: Parenting in a Fast-Paced World”

Dear Harker Families –

We want to remind you of the upcoming Common Ground workshop titled “Don’t Hurry, Be Happy: Parenting in a Fast-Paced World” with Carl Honoré, on Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. at Yavneh Day School in Los Gatos as well as at 9:30 a.m. at Phillips Brooks School in Menlo Park. Honoré comes to us from London; he is a global guru of the fast-growing Slow Movement. He is an award-winning author, broadcaster and TED speaker who travels the world teaching individuals and organizations that the best way to power forward in today’s hypercompetitive, hurry-hurry world. Honoré’s influential works include “In Praise of Slowness” and “The Slow Fix.” Host of the podcast “The Slow Revolution,” his TED talk on the benefits of resisting today’s cult of speed has been viewed by more than 2.5 million people.

Honoré explores the impacts our “go faster, do more” culture has on families. Drawing from his book “Under Pressure: Rescuing Our Children from the Culture of Hyper-Parenting,” Honoré offers guidance for parents who feel swept up in the race to create high-achieving offspring. Parents will learn why faster isn’t always better and how embracing “slow culture” can allow us to redefine success and create a richer family life.

For more information about the presentation and for alternative presentation dates and locations, please visit the Common Ground website. More information can also be found on the flyer for this event.

Common Ground will record Carl Honoré’s presentation and will post it several weeks after his talk. You can view this talk and all videos of past Common Ground presenters online with the password CGSSVideo, via the “Counseling and LIFE” tile.
