Harker is deeply committed to arts education and extends our performance opportunities during the summer months. In workshops that explore everything from helping performers prepare for college auditions to music and song production, we inspire students to explore their passions, develop their strengths, build poise and confidence and share their talents with friends.

Our summer music camp invites musicians of all levels and instruments to come together to play. Students will play musical games in a fun learning environment and have a performance at the end of the session to show off their new skills.
|
Singing in an ensemble is an experience like no other. Students who join this engaging summer class will cultivate a love for singing together, receiving instruction in voice and musicianship and participating in a variety of musical activities and games.
|
Students will learn about the music production process. They will be introduced to the five elements that construct the modern pop song and will utilize those elements to create their own contemporary compositions. Then they will learn the foundation of music engineering – recording, editing and mixing – so that their songs extend beyond “good” and into “great.” The ability to read music and play a musical instrument would be a benefit, but are by no means required.

Students who love to sing, are curious about music, want to make new friends and love having fun should join choir camp this summer! In this two-week class they will learn repertoire ranging from classical cantatas and folk songs from across the world to soulful spirituals, show tunes and pop tunes. Music chosen is appropriate for each skill level and reflects themes appropriate for the ages of the singers. Students will learn solfege (do-re-mi) and practice sight-reading. The course will end with a concert for family and friends.

Students grades 6-12 who are passionate about performing arts can improve their skills with classes focused on technique and performance instruction. Classes develop self-confidence and responsibility, personal and artistic expression, listening and awareness, stage presence, creativity and teamwork. Preparation like this is invaluable not only to prepare participants for performing arts courses and auditions, but to help students succeed in their academic coursework as well.
