Summer Institute is for students grades 6-12, and offers participants a variety of academic options, including rigorous for-credit high school courses and non-credit opportunities for enrichment and growth. Our dedicated faculty, combined with small classes, great facilities and a positive learning environment, add up to a great summer experience! Middle School Summer Institute
Middle School Summer Institute. Our exciting summer middle school program offers a wide variety of academics, arts, athletics and activities allowing you to create a summer program tailored to your child’s individual passions and interests. Classes include Magic, Circus Arts, Geometry Lab, and Poets and Playwrights, to name a few. Two-week sessions allow students to expand their knowledge in a favorite subject, complement a school-year schedule or to challenge themselves in a new area!

Featured class: Entomology: A Bug’s Life

June 24-July 5 | 8:30-11:30 a.m.

What is that insect? In this course, you will learn what it is like to be an entomologist. Each day you will learn about the life of a new bug, and learn how to catch, identify and pin them. You will also venture out with a bug net to start your own collection and catch them all!

Featured class: Circus Arts

June 24-July 5 – 12:45-3:45 p.m.
July 8-19 – 8:30-11:30 a.m.
July 22-Aug. 2 – 12:45-3:45 p.m.

This course is designed to introduce students to the basic arts of the circus. Students will learn how to juggle everything from bean bags to diablo sticks, and balance on a variety of objects such as stilts and balance boards. Circus Arts is a non-competitive class and focuses on individual and group skills. Through this class, students will learn important values, such as responsibility, commitment, self-confidence and self-discipline. Also, Circus Arts will help students overcome fear and build self-confidence and self-esteem. Upon completion of this course, students will be well on their way to a successful career in the circus!

Upper School Summer Institute
Upper School Summer Institute allows students to choose from a variety of academic options, including rigorous for-credit high school courses and non-credit opportunities for enrichment and growth. Most courses are open to qualified students enrolled in any accredited high school. Our dedicated faculty, combined with small classes, great facilities and a positive learning environment add up to a great summer experience!
Featured class: American Pop Culture from 1950 to 2010

July 1-July 12, 8:30-11 a.m.
July 15-July 26, 8:30-11 a.m.

This is a history class from a completely different point of view! Each week, students will dive deep into a new decade, starting with a look at the political, social and economic influences that inspired the culture.
bullet How did Reagan give us Pretty in Pink and hip-hop?
bullet How did George Bush inspire Nirvana and Pearl Jam?
bullet Why do we have so many reality TV shows today?
We will look critically and thoughtfully at movies, music and television … and also toys, catch phrases and fashion! If you’ve ever wondered why people ask, “Where’s the beef?” or think it’s “Finger lickin’ good,” or if you have ever thought that it’s strange that your teachers take attendance and ask for “Bueller? Bueller?” then this is the class for you.

Summer at the Conservatory
Summer at the Conservatory is taught in the state-of-the-art Rothschild Performing Arts Center and brings together the very best Bay Area performing arts educators to help students develop skills in a variety of acting classes, workshops, master classes and performances.
Featured Class: Film Acting Intensive

The Reel Workshop is brought to you by Connect Studios and The Reel You of Los Angeles. In this interactive, intensive three-day course, students will engage in conversation and lecture, effective exercises, mock auditions, on-set experience and insightful Q&As with industry professionals. Workshops are taught by the very best Bay Area educators and elite professionals in the performing arts industry.

Experience all the different aspects of film acting in this three-day intensive course. Workshops include:
bullet Audition Technique/Cold Reading: Techniques for auditioning for film, TV and commercials.
bullet Mock Auditions: Go through a real audition experience and receive feedback.
bullet Demo Reel Shoot … a Film Set Experience: All students will be involved in the demo reel shoot on set with a director, cameraman and sound operator.
bullet Headshots: Students learn how to catch attention and show their essence through a headshot shoot.
bullet Q&A: Students have a chance to dive deep with an industry professional in an in-depth Q&A.
